The Giro Skyla - is it really Woman Friendly?

The Giro Skyla women's sport helmet is touted as the ultimate women's helmet. But is it really? I am sure you remember the old hot clunker bike helmets that Bubba, and Bubba's girl, used to wear? Not on my head, thank you very much! Now I am not a fashion statement by any means when I ride a bike but there is a limit. I guess that was one reason I never used to ride a bike - just couldn't bear to look so unfashionable. Well, you can take those sawed into, hollowed out bowling ball shaped helmets and chuck them for good.

The Giro Skyla women’s sport helmet ushers in the dawn of a new age! It seemed like the day would never come - when designers would pay attention to the fashion needs of women. Enter the Giro Skyla - sleek, fashionable, light weight, cool! And the Acu Dial fit system allows you to adjust the full fit band (Universal Fit Women UW size (50-57cm)) with a single hand - did I say functional too? It comes in several colors, so you can either choose to match your bike or contrast - your choice. See them here.

There are 20 sweeping vents keep your head cool even when your pushing hard. They really thought a lot about a woman's needs when they made this helmet, as the Acu Loc adjustable fit system has a ponytail slot to ensure comfort when you ride. One of the cooler features, however, is the Snap-fit visor, which keeps the sun, and even the rain, out of your eyes so you can focus on what's ahead. The visor is an extremely functional feature! The straps that come down over your ears and then clip under your chin are somewhat difficult to use, however. These straps do require shortening to fit your chin and took a little more effort than expected. However, this could possibly be a safety feature since helmet does not become loose after being properly adjusted.

The Giro Skyla Womens bike helmet only weighs 270 grams - that’s barely over half a pound. In fact, it is so comfortable it is easy to forget you have it on. They reduced the total size of the helmet by fusing the foam liner to the sleek looking microshell. The result - no bowling ball look! Simply sleek and fashionable - maybe even sheik?

Before purchasing this helmet I read a lot of reviews. It really did not matter to me that Giro helmets are worn by millions of cyclists, snowboarders, and skiers around the world. When I see old-timers, hipsters, rookies, and experts, wearing the same helmet I wonder if it is simply a fashion trend, with a lot of lemmings following suit, or if there is a functional advantage. In this case the helmet was a real seller - it sold me. Oh, yeah, and it is worth mentioning that the one two star rating I came across was from someone whose only complaint was that it did not come in a solid color. Give me a break - I'll bet she wears matching sneakers too!

Since Jim Gentes, designer/bike racer, created the first lightweight adult cycling helmet in 1985, the Giro sports helmets have come a long way. Giro helmets have set the standards for styling, function, and innovation for performance-oriented riders. If you appreciate cutting edge style, superior fit and function, and the very best comfort features you get in a helmet, then you will want to own the Giro Skyla women's sports helmet. The female designs are really cute, and are incredibly adjustable. I highly recommend this helmet.
